The challenge
Medication adherence is a global health issue—especially for younger patients who struggle with routine. We set out to build a solution that’s simple, intelligent, and emotionally supportive, not just clinically functional. That meant rethinking both the physical experience of taking pills and the digital experience that guides it.
We had no external deadlines or investors—just a high bar for quality, and a personal mission. Over time, the product evolved from concept to MVP, and through a full redesign in 2024 as we refined our target audience and visual identity.
The story
I was always the type who had constant pen notes all over my hands in high school, and had multiple parallel methods to remind myself to every single task. So it can’t come as a shock when I say that remembering to take medication has never been easy either. I also had the feeling that I wasn’t alone with this issue.
While waiting for the birth of our first son, my husband and I started talking about a real solution to a problem we knew intimately. That’s how Pillbie was born: a personal need that turned into a healthcare startup combining smart hardware and user-centered design to help others build a reliable medication routine.
